Potrero Chico is a dirtbagger's paradise. The canyon beckons in the wild hearted with high-lines crisscrossing wall to wall overhead, climbers trying their hand at smooth limestone multi pitches & the occasional base jumper gathering his wits as he ascends for the free fall. The culture is different from any climbing location I've been to. There's no one to claim it as a "locals only" spot. Everyone there is an outsider to it's towering walls creating unity & a mutual respect for the place.
My purpose in visiting was to volunteer at El Buho ("The Owl"), a faith-based coffee shop in Hidalgo that has worked hard the last few years to create a space for community to grow, both in the climbing community & with the locals. The money made at the shop is going towards a school that both the staff & climbers have been volunteering to build. If you're interested in finding out more about El Buho, there's a video at the bottom of the page.
Shoutout to Fayettechill for hooking the guys up with clothes for some shenanigans.
Great work on this video, Alex Ruiz!
